Summary: Sierra Water Workgroup (SWWG) to Develop a Data Management System (DMS) for
Integrated Regional Water Management (IRWM) regions
The Sierra Water Workgroup will develop and implement a Data Management System (DMS) in support of the Tahoe-Sierra IRWMP. The DMS will serve as a basic platform for publishing spatial and tabular data as needed to promote collaboration and data sharing between IRWMP areas, stakeholders within IRWM’s, and the public, as appropriate.

This work will include a web based data management tool as well as a document library. The SWWG, through extensive outreach to stakeholders, and in coordination with other Sierra IRWMPs, will  configure an interactive document library function for easy loading, searching, and retrieval. The SWWG will also research, identify and develop a format for project information that the Tahoe Sierra stakeholders can utilize. These documents may be linked to locations on the map to enhance storage and retrieval by adding a spatial component. Tools will be provided for authorized DMS users to load additional documents and edit and manage the document library after the initial documents import effort has been completed.

The Sierra Water Workgroup's mission is to assist regional efforts to protect and enhance water quality, water supply, and watershed health; to develop cooperative regional responses; and to facilitate reinvestment in our watersheds and water resources by all beneficiaries. The SWWG includes representatives from twelve IRWM’s across the Sierra.

The Tahoe-Sierra IRWM and the SWWG have a unique opportunity to utilize public funds in coordination with other IRWM’s to develop a robust and sustainable Interregional Data Management System. There are other regions that will be  contributing funds for this effort and will be actively participating in a data committee, to develop formats, identify data objectives and organize tracking information.  Streamlining public funds to enhance one tool for the Sierra IRWM’s is pragmatic and will further the SWWG and IRWMs goals and objectives.
